About

Born in 1965, Joel Carter has spent most of his adult life leaving and returning to Milwaukee where he was born. When he was young he found security by drawing with a pencil and whatever scrap of paper was available to use. His creativity was not encouraged however, so he spent his life serving different communities across the country as a paramedic until a physical injury ended his career.

Finding himself back in Milwaukee once again disabled and lost, he returned to school and was accepted into the local artist community to earn his Bachelors of Fine Arts in 2015. Overcoming the limitations a disability imposes upon his art is a recurrent theme that can be found subtly or covertly hidden within many of his images and projects.

pHo-bo is his personal art and design blog as well as an outlet for current creative projects he is working on in order to engage with an audience. As a MIAD alumni both art & design are firmly entrenched in his heart and psyche.
